Students are able to choose from a wide range of part-time undergraduate programmes taught in Stratford, including Bachelor's degrees, foundation degrees, and Certificates of Higher Education.
Certificates count as a complete qualification in their own right, and can also be used for entry onto degree programmes. Many of the Certificates and Foundation degrees have no formal entry requirements, and admissions tutors will take non-academic experience into account.
For the first time in autumn 2012, students of any age on undergraduate degrees or certificate programmes will be able to take out a student loan to cover the cost of their fees, and will only have to start to pay this back when they have finished their course and are earning over £21,000.
Coming back to study after a gap of several years or starting for the first time could seem a daunting experience, but at Birkbeck Stratford new students join a community of learners of different ages and backgrounds who offer each other mutual support. Birkbeck's lecturers are experienced in supporting part-time students.
Nana Agyeman, who studied for a Certificate of Higher Education HEIS on the Nursing, Midwifery and Health Studies Pathway and is now doing a degree in nursing, said: "Doing the certificate was great preparation for going on to do a BSc degree. I would definitely recommend Birkbeck because it provides you with a highly recognised qualification, great teaching and support, and excellent facilities"
Work is currently underway on University Square Stratford, a new university building on Stratford Island, which will be shared between Birkbeck and the University of East London. The building, which will open in autumn 2013, will provide teaching and performance space for both universities, as well as providing additional space for other organisations in the community.

Our Promise to You
Birkbeck has launched a new initiative for potential students called ‘Our Promise to You', designed to help part-time students understand the new loan system.
If you can answer yes to these three questions you can apply for a Government loan to cover your tuition fees:
1.Are you wanting to study for an undergraduate degree or certificate of higher education at Birkbeck?
2.Is this your first time studying at this level?
3.Are you classified as a Home/EU student?
Jonah Duffin, Head of Marketing and Recruitment at Birkbeck, said: "We are encouraging people interested in studying at Birkbeck to apply now, so that they don't risk missing out on a place on their course. Our promise to you means that you can apply and enrol in confidence, knowing that you can finance your course."
