It was first established as Rosetta Studio Workshops by ex-university lecturer, Yvonne Humble, in 1993 and based in a single classroom at Rosetta Primary School, Canning Town. It quickly expanded to a new location in 1995 at the Hamilton Road Centre, Stratford, which remains the home of Rosetta Art Centre today. In 2007 it was renamed Rosetta Art Centre under a new management.
From the outset Rosetta Art Centre focused on the visual arts education of local adults and whilst this remains a core activity today, the Centre delivers a far wider range of programs, activities and services to the community:
Working with a wide variety of local schools, Rosetta Art Centre delivers project work and after-school provisions both in-school through artist in residence initiatives as well as at the Centre itself.
School holiday programs such as summer schools and Easter break schools are offered every year, where a variety of activities and workshops are offered to local children and young people.
The Children's Saturday Art School offers a fun and engaging programme of activities, including gallery and museum visits and exhibition opportunities for Newham's young children aged 8-11 years old.
The Young Newham Artists project caters specifically for young people aged 16-24 years from Newham, offering them a unique space and environment to work on digital and mixed media collaborative projects, allowing them to develop their individual creative skills at the same time as achieving accredited qualifications and gaining an invaluable experience.
Our post-16 (adult) course provision covers a comprehensive range of visual arts, offering accredited qualifications at different levels and through different mediums. It also includes a number of non-accredited short courses.
We provide specific classes and workshops that are tailored to the specific needs of adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Weekend holiday courses for adults are delivered at Debden House, in the Epping Forest where you can book accommodation, catering and a weekend visual art course all together.
